The city's Fire and Police Commission on Friday appointed a 24-year department veteran as the new fire chief.
Peter Fletty took the oath of office at 8 a.m. Friday, shortly after the commission selected him with a unanimous vote.
The Marshfield Fire and Police Commission could have hired someone from outside the department to be the next chief but chose instead to promote Fletty, said Mike Meyers, commission president.
"We made a very good decision," Meyers said.
Fletty joined the Marshfield Fire Department in December 1997 and became deputy chief for fire prevention in 2017. He served as interim fire chief during retired Chief Scott Owen's leave of absence from the department and since Owen's retirement at the end of 2021.
