All occupants of an apartment safely got out of an apartment that was on fire late Monday night. The La Crosse Fire Department says they responded to a basement fire at 119 9th Street South shortly before 11:30 p.m. Monday. Crews arrived to discover smoke coming from the basement of the three-unit apartment building. According to the fire department, some of the residents put water on the fire before they arrived. Six trucks and 16 firefighters responded. Crews were able to put the remainder of the basement fire out and conduct a search for anyone else who may have been inside. All occupants got out safely. The fire left significant smoke inside the building. Crews were able to ventilate the building and all residents returned to their homes. The cause of the fire was not determined.
