Reid Berger, a longtime member of the Baldwin community as the United Fire and Rescue District Chief and a physician’s assistant, passed away Sept. 30 at the age of 72 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at Peace Lutheran Church with the funeral service starting at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, with a private family visitation taking place an hour prior to the service.
Berger joined the Baldwin Fire Department in 1978 and became its Fire Chief by 1982. He was a driving force behind the creation of United Fire and Rescue, merging the Baldwin, Woodville, and Hammond Fire Departments. He was appointed District Chief in 1994, a position he held until his passing. In 2017, the Lifetime Achievement Award for the State of Wisconsin was presented to Berger for his dedication to fire services.
