A fire north of Fort McCoy is now 50% contained. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says about 3,000 acres have burned in Monroe County. A vast majority on the Fort McCoy base, only 70 acres were off base. Another 85 structures were threatened by the fire, so a larger area was evacuated. That includes Arcadia Ave to Highway 12, Highway 12 to Highway EW, EW to Highway E and then E back to Century. The evacuation center has been moved to accommodate the additional residents. It's now at the Lunda Community Center at 405 State Highway 54 in Black River Falls. Major General Matthew Baker, the senior commander at Fort McCoy, said the investigation continues into what sparked the fire, but they were doing prescribed burns at the time.
