30 people displaced after Wauwatosa apartment building fire

VIDEO: Firefighters battled a large apartment fire Wednesday in Wauwatosa. It started Wednesday around 4 p.m. at a two-story, 12-unit apartment building in the 9600 block of West Hampton Avenue. Smoke from the fire could be seen a mile away. Milwaukee's assistant fire chief expects four units on the west side of the building to be impacted. He said the flames likely started on the bottom floor. "I would imagine it's going to be a pretty heavy lift for tonight. We have certainly the two apartments on the end of the building on the first and second floor that have extensive damage," Assistant Chief Schuyler Belott said. "The adjacent units might have some damage as we've gone to them to make sure no fire extended there." Alarms were sounding, and three-year resident Nicole Perkins was shocked.
