VIDEO: The old fire station #5 on Denton St. in La Crosse is getting a part put back up on the building that hasn't been there in over 60 years. The current owner of the property is installing a brand new tower on top of the building.
Back 1895, when the building was used as fire station, the tower is where firefighters used to sit during the day and watch for smoke.
If any smoke was seen they would send the horse-drawn fire wagons to go on calls.
The tower isn't the original one built back in the 1890s. However, they were able to get their hands on the original blueprints, so it is nearly an exact replica.
