VIDEO: Many communities rely on their local volunteer fire departments for emergencies. However, staffing those departments can be extremely challenging.
The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services has created a grant funding of $150,000 for eligible applicants that will help youth firefighter training programs throughout the state.
“Most fire departments throughout the country are experiencing problems recruiting and retaining firefighters,” said Brad Johnson the Director of Bureau of Field Services for the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. “The problem exists particularly with volunteer fire departments.”
Eligible applicants for the grant program include technical colleges, middle and high schools, and local fire departments. Each grant applicant can receive up to $25,000.
