VIDEO: As the area continues to see warmer than average temperatures, people may be looking to get outside and enjoy the bluffs and trails while they can but it's important to keep safety in mind.
Regardless of the season, it's imperative that people are prepared before venturing onto the trails and into the bluffs.
"In the winter, definitely, it's making sure you wear proper attire," City of La Crosse Parks, Rec. & Forestry Dept. Outdoor Recreation Coordinator Sami Meyer said. "Plan your route ahead of time, plan accordingly, make sure you have enough time on the trails so you can get in and out before it gets dark."
Before someone heads out the door, La Crosse Fire Department Lt. Matt Miller urges people to let others know where they're going and to not travel alone.
When headed into the woods, it's important to bring the right gear.
