9-year-old dies, elderly woman critically injured in Milwaukee apartment fire

A 9-year-old girl is dead and an elderly woman is in critical condition following an apartment fire in Milwaukee on Sunday, Nov. 19. Authorities were called to Servite Drive and Wabash Court around 11:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they found smoke from the second floor of a two-story apartment building. Fire crews had to deal with extreme hoarding conditions. They located an elderly woman and 9-year-old girl. Both were transported to local hospitals. The 9-year-old girl did not survive. She was identified by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office as Aria Jacque. The elderly victim suffered critical injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation. It's unclear if there were smoke detectors inside. "Please, please, please check that you have at least one working smoke alarm in your residence. If you live in an apartment, your landlord is required to provide you a working smoke alarm.
