VIDEO: Multiple departments responded to an apartment fire in the Town of Sheboygan Wednesday afternoon. The fire broke out in an upper-level apartment at Mapledale Residential Communities. Part of N 40th Street was blocked off, which intersects W Oakdale Ct. Firefighters were on the scene within four minutes of the call. Video from a witness shows massive flames engulfing a second-floor balcony. Another video shows a large plume of smoke billowing over the apartment building. No one was inside the apartment and there were no injuries. Officials say the fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials. There was also some damage to neighboring apartment units, with people in three units being displaced. Fire officials estimated the damage at $400,000.
