VIDEO: The night sky turned orange around a barn north of Ixonia on Sunday night as flames consumed the structure and firefighters battled to keep them contained, video from the scene showed.
“I looked out and I didn’t see anything but I came out of the house and I saw this whole end of the barn on fire and by the time we got moving, it was too late,” said Bill Couch, the property owner.
Thirty-five-thousand gallons of water showered down on the blaze as crews worked to put it out, the Ixonia Fire Department stated the next day in a post on Facebook. All of that water had to be trucked in to the scene.
“And the thing is when you’re out in the country like this there’s no water,” said Couch.
They managed to save the home, which is east of Watertown, and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses, a neighbor wrote in a post that showed scenes from the fire.
