VIDEO: Firefighters had to clean up a fuel spill on Madison's north side Monday after a driver backed their car into a fuel pump and drove off. Another customer went to use the fuel pump after the first driver left and reportedly found a leak coming from the base of the pump; a delivery driver used the emergency stop and was able to cut off the leak before firefighters arrived at the Kwik Trip on Northport Drive. Crews with the Madison Fire Department used eight bags of Oil Dry (a product used for spills) to soak up an estimated 5 gallons of gasoline. The spill was cleaned up before it was able to drain into any nearby grassy areas. Firefighters marked the effected pump with safety tape until the gas station's management could arrange for repairs. Authorities didn't immediately have any further information about the driver who reportedly hit the pump before driving away.
