PHOTO: The West Bend Fire Department tested Mequon-based Fire Suppression Solutions’ EV fire blanket and portable fire suppression tool last week to see how well they help prevent the spread of a car and electric vehicle fire.
And while it may technically be called an EV — electric vehicle — blanket, it can be used on any internal combustion engine vehicle.
According to Fire Suppression Solutions President and COO Mark Monk, the EV fire Blanket is designed to cover a vehicle if it catches on fire. Once covered, the blanket encloses the car to keep the fire from spreading to other nearby cars or structures.
Then an FST is placed under the blanket and it dispenses an aerosol that reduces the temperature inside the blanket, which can slow the spread of the fire, making it easier for firefighters to put it out or even extinguish it.
