PHOTOS: A Cottage Grove firefighter died after a motorcycle crash in Madison over the weekend, according to the Cottage Grove Fire Department. The Dane County Medical Examiner confirmed Monday the man who died in the crash was 20-year-old Gavin Wendricks. Wendricks died after being hurt in a motorcycle crash on I-39/90 Saturday afternoon. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the examiner states. A 21-year-old Sun Prairie man was also hurt in the crash. He is expected to survive, according to officials. Fire department spokesperson Lt. Jason Kudrna said Wendricks' "big heart and bigger smile will be greatly missed." He said Wendricks had "immense pride and devotion" to the fire department and "relished" working beside his father -- who's been with the volunteer fire for Wendrick's whole life -- and other first responders.
