An investigation is underway by local, state, and federal authorities after one man is killed in a fire Tuesday morning at a Tomah motel.
Fire Chief Tim Adler said firefighters were sent to the Daybreak Inn motel at 215 E. Clifton Street in Tomah at 9:43 a.m.
He said the initial call from dispatch said that there was a single male occupant still inside the building. Smoke was coming from the building.
Before fire crews could arrive, law enforcement officers were able to get the man out of the building.
Members of the Tomah Area Ambulance Service tried life-saving measures but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The name of the man isn't being released pending notification of relatives.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to a single unit.
Besides Tomah Fire Department members, firefighters from the Fort McCoy Fire Department assisted at the scene.
