Town officials have hired a veteran firefighter from outside the community to lead a new fire department that will begin serving Norway residents on Oct. 1. James Mollet, who has nearly 30 years of experience, will lead the Norway Fire Department when the new town organization replaces the Wind Lake Volunteer Fire Company. The town is taking over because the private Wind Lake company has struggled in recent years to attract volunteers and to maintain a stable financial foundation. Using the Wind Lake firehouse, trucks and equipment, the new Norway Fire Department will start providing fire protection and ambulance service to the community’s 8,000 residents. The Wind Lake company will cease operations. Town officials said they are confident that the new fire department is ready to go to work.
