The Richfield Volunteer Fire Company (RVFC), after 125 years of service, has voted to dissolve its current nonprofit organizational status and transition to a municipal fire department, 25-1.
Village President John Jeffords said there are still a few steps left in the process, but the transition is coming and will be undertaken in the least disruptive way possible.
"The RVFC has been an integral part of the fabric of our community for over a century, and we owe a debt of gratitude to the volunteers who have selflessly served their neighbors. As we navigate this transition, our goal is to maintain the high level of service that Richfield residents have come to expect," said Jeffords. "While there are financial implications that need to be discussed in future board meetings, our focus remains on ensuring a smooth organizational transition without compromising the safety and security of our community."
