The City of Altoona's population has grown significantly in the past couple of decades, making it one of the fastest growing cities in Wisconsin. Population growth in Altoona means there’s been a higher demand for firefighters and police officers. The growth now has the fire department and police departments rethinking the size of their location. “Our call volume in the last ten years has both doubled for both fire and EMS calls," said Fire Chief Mark Renderman. Currently, the fire department and police station share a building, but the lack of space has become challenging causing them to relocate. Renderman says the Altoona Fire Department has outgrown their current location at 1904 Spooner Ave. "We’ve had equipment stored at a couple of different locations in which we determined we needed to do something."
