VIDEO: Due to warmer weather conditions, the state DNR is raising concern over a possible increase in wildfires this spring. According to DNR Forestry team leader Andrew Sorenson, the lack of snow cover leads to dryer conditions, which can be concerning leading into the spring. Right now, fire danger remains low in most of the state, with moderate conditions in Northern Wisconsin. However, Sorenson expects moderate conditions to spread as the weather warms these next three months. On February 3, a wildfire broke loose near Fairchild. Sorenson said it was an unusual occurrence for our area this early in the year. "It's not really a matter of if these fires can catch this time of year because we are seeing it. So, it's time we are really taking the precautions of having a burn permit, knowing what those requirements are of those burn permits, and having tools and water available," said Sorenson.
