VIDEO: To bolster home fire safety, the Wausau Fire Department is emphasizing the importance of “closed-door messaging” in Feb., urging people to close bedroom doors before bedtime.
“You want to keep your bedroom door closed so that you’re creating a barrier for heat, smoke, and fire to keep it from spreading throughout your home and getting in while you’re sleeping,” Wausau Fire Department Chief Jeremy Kopp said.
Brian Stahl, the Fire Marshal at the Wausau Fire Department, underscored the critical role of closed doors in preventing smoke inhalation injuries. “The majority of people caught in a house fire are overcome by heavy smoke before any fire reaches them,” he said.
Aside from posing health risks, smoke can also cause extensive property damage, potentially resulting in substantial financial losses.
