Two people escaped a house fire in the town of Albion Monday morning, according to the Lakeside Fire-Rescue chief.
Chief Randall Pickering told 27 News a passerby saw the fire on the 1400-block of County Highway A, just north of Edgerton, and called 911 shortly after 7 a.m.
Pickering said a father and son were home when the fire started. The father was awoken by a loud bang coming from the home's kitchen. He discovered the fire there. The man tried to smother the fire, but it pushed him out of the home, Pickering said.
Pickering said the son was on the second floor and had to climb down from a deck to escape.
Both of them were taken to the hospital and are being treated for smoke inhalation. Pickering said they are expected to be okay.
By the time fire crews arrived, Pickering said the home was engulfed in flames. It is a total loss.
