The Beaver Dam Fire Department says a firefighter who was hospitalized after an airboat crash during ice rescue training earlier this week is now out of the hospital. In an update posted Thursday, department officials say the firefighter was able to return home on Wednesday, but there is no timetable for his return to duty as of now. The department was conducting the training on Beaver Dam Lake near Grape Island on Monday night when an airboat hit the island, injuring three firefighters who were on board. All three were initially taken to the emergency department, but two of the firefighters were treated and released early Tuesday morning. The third firefighter who had to be hospitalized was flown by helicopter to Aurora Summit Hospital in Oconomowoc.
