A fire on the second floor of an apartment in Fitchburg was contained by firefighters Monday. No injuries were reported. Spokesperson Kimberly Miller said firefighters were called to 1910 Greenway Cross at about 1:54 p.m. The first arriving fire personnel reported alarms sounding and confirmed visible smoke on the second floor. The fire was located on a second-floor apartment and was contained to that apartment, Miller said. The building fire alarms did activate and sound but there were no sprinklers in the building, according to Miller. The fire was extinguished quickly by first arriving companies. The apartment residents were displaced due to fire and water damage in the apartment. The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation.
