VIDEO: Station 2 was one of the City of Eau Claire's busiest fire stations last year. It's attached to city hall and responded to over 1,750 out-of-district calls in 2023.
However, Station 2 is one of the city's oldest — being built in the 1940s.
Deputy Fire Chief Robert Haller said the building is showing its age, its living quarters are only separated by curtains, the showers and bathroom are open and it was built before the implementation of Americans with Disabilities Act.
Haller said the station is also the last in Eau Claire with a functioning pole.
"This station, Station 2 is now 76-years-old," Haller said. "Typically we look at the lifespan of a fire station or any city building to be right around 50-years-old, so we're definitely past the lifespan of the station but obviously there's other factors that are going to play in."
