VIDEO: Flames broke out early Friday morning at a business near the intersection of Yates and Copeland avenues in Beloit forcing the evacuation of several homes in the area. Around 12:45 a.m., fire crews from around the region were called to 1515 Yates Avenue. City officials say the blaze will be difficult to extinguish because of current weather conditions and a large number of tires stored in the area. The Rock County Health Department now recommends residents wear masks outside if near the site, due to the burnt tires. It recommends N95 or P100 mask models. The evacuation zone includes homes south of Copeland Avenue between Yates and Porter avenues to Harvey Street. There is a temporary warming location at Merrill Elementary School on Nelson Avenue and the Red Cross is on site to help.
