After 36 years in the Waukesha Fire Department, Chief Steve Howard has decided to retire. Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly made the announcement in an email that Howard will retire effective May 1.
"While it saddens us to see Chief Howard leave the organization, we acknowledge that his well-deserved retirement marks the culmination of nearly 36 years of exemplary service to the city of Waukesha," Reilly said.
Howard has served the Waukesha Fire Department in various capacities, including as a firefighter, lieutenant fire inspector, deputy chief, assistant fire chief, and ultimately, as fire chief.
“Throughout his tenure, his dedication to the fire service and the city of Waukesha has been unmistakable,” Reilly said.
