Columbia County officials rescued a snowmobiler who fell through ice over the weekend on Lake Wisconsin. A caller reported to Columbia County dispatch around 11 a.m. Sunday that two snowmobiles fell through the lake in Sunset Bay, noting one person was in the water and another person was still on the ice. A Columbia County deputy responding to the lake reported seeing the snowmobiler in the water, about 100 yards from the shore. The deputy observed people were trying to save the man. The Sheriff’s Office explained a deputy, a Lodi firefighter and two individuals threw a ski rope to the man and pulled him onto the shore. An ambulance was waiting nearby to pick him up. Officials credited the man’s use of a flotation device specifically designed for snowmobiling as a factor that aided in his rescue.
