A release from the Lyndon Station Fire Department states that firefighters received reports of a fully involved barn fire in the Town of Lemonweir, near Mauston, around 4:20 a.m. on January 17.
When crews first arrived, they were met by heavy smoke and fire showing from the side of the dairy barn.
Mutual aid was requested and the fire was brought under control within an hour of arrival.
It was noted in the release that nearby farms and residents helped to transport the family farm’s cattle so they could be milked. However, one calf died as a result of the fire.
Authorities say that the dairy barn was a ‘total loss,’ and that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
