22 assisted living residents are without a home after a fire broke out at North Crest Assisted Living Wednesday night. Fire officials say the call came out at around 10:45 p.m. They arrived on scene to see smoke coming from the roof of the building. Stevens Point Fire Department Battalion Chief Jared Hopfensperger told NewsChannel 7 that he was the first to arrive on scene, and decided to update the call because he could see and smell smoke. Crews from the Town of Hull, Plover, Rudolph, Stockton, Dewey Town, and Amherst assisted in fighting the fire. Stevens Point police officers helped evacuate the 22 residents of the building, and Stevens Point Transit sent a bus for firefighters to take breaks in. The bus also was used to transport residents of the living center.
