VIDEO: The Southern Ozaukee County fire chief confirmed Thursday that a mother and son died following a house fire in Mequon late Tuesday night. The police have not yet released the victim's identities, but the woman was in her 80s. The Southern Ozaukee Fire Department responded to the home around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on Wauwatosa Road just north of Mequon Road. WISN 12 News cameras captured flames and heavy smoke coming from the home. It was difficult for firefighters to enter the home because of dense smoke, Southern Ozaukee Fire & EMS Department Chief David Bialk said. Firefighters found the man while fighting the fire. "He was unconscious. We tried to resuscitate him. He died at the scene. We went back later that day looking for the second person," Bialk said.
