VIDEO: Two people suffered injuries when a fire broke out at an apartment on Madison's east side Saturday morning. Spokesperson Eric Dahl said the fire was reported just before 5 a.m. in the 3000 block of Commercial Avenue. Firefighters arrived a short time later to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the front door and windows of the building. The fire was controlled in about 10 minutes, Dahl said. Firefighters rescued one resident from a second floor balcony. The other occupants of the building escaped on their own. It's not known at the time of this report their current conditions. Madison Gas & Electric responded to turn off the electricity and natural gas service. A Madison Metro bus provided a warm place for the tenants and firefighters to escape the cold temperatures.
