VIDEO: At least seven people have died in house fires in Wisconsin in the first month of 2024. “What goes through our head is every one of those are probably preventable,” Neenah-Menasha Fire/Rescue assistant chief of fire prevention and fire marshal Adam Dorn said. That’s the official statistic from the U.S. Fire Administration, but Dorn told Action 2 News there could be eight. The USFA reported 47 home fire deaths in Wisconsin last year. That’s down from a ten-year high of 52 deaths in 2022. If the current rate continued, at least 84 people would die in house fires this year. Firefighters are trying to prevent more tragedy through education. Dorn said home fire deaths are mostly preventable with working smoke alarms.
