It’s time to update your driver’s license. A new initiative from Wisconsin’s Division of Motor Vehicles gives you the option to add emergency contact information. This will be accessible as part of your DMV record. The emergency contact law was passed to give you peace of mind. If you’re in a crash or have a medical emergency, officials can call your loved ones much quicker with your identification. The information isn’t printed on your driver’s license. It will be in your record which first responders or law enforcement can access if and when there’s an emergency. The DMV will have you fill out your information: things like your Wisconsin driver’s license or state ID card number, the last four digits of your Social Security number and your date of birth. Then you can add your emergency contacts. It takes about one minute.
