VIDEO: After 28 years of service, Assistant Chief of Operations Jeff Murphy is retiring. Chief Murphy began his career in the fire industry volunteering at the age of 15. He was hooked and knew he had to do it full time. He joined the La Crosse Fire Department in 1996 and worked his way up the ranks. He says you never work a day in your life if you love your job. "There's no better career. They always say find something you love, and you'll never work a day in your life and that's what this career has been about for me and so many other people that have worked here," says Murphy. During his time with La Crosse Fire, Murphy was also a leader on Urban Search and Rescue team and the Hazmat team.
