According to a study from the National Institutes of Health, nearly half of falls that happen in homes of people 65 and older are due to throw rugs.
To help prevent these types of falls, Gundersen Health System, the La Crosse Fire Department, and local coffee shops are teaming up to host the 'Mugs for Rugs' campaign.
During the month of March, people can drop off 4x6 throw rugs or smaller at several local coffee shops. The coffee shops will trade you a mug of coffee for the rug.
All rugs will be donated to local animal shelters, according to Gundersen Health.
