VIDEO: As workforce struggles continue to plague Wisconsin, Gov. Tony Evers is making his rounds across the state to highlight needs in various career paths. The Wausau Fire Department is proposing an apprenticeship program that will give people the opportunity to network with staff and see if it’s a career path they want to take. Wausau Deputy Fire Chief Justin Pluess said he hopes this apprenticeship will not only keep people in the Wausau area, but also bring others from across the state. It’s something he says will allow fire crews to work with people of all ages to gauge their interest in becoming firefighters. “This apprenticeship program would allow the opportunity for someone to go to school, obtain all the training and certifications required, while also being able to earn some income so that they can pay the bills,” Pluess said.
