VIDEO: A winter without much snow is now putting the Wisconsin fire danger a lot higher than usual for this time of year. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources fire crews were busy in southern Waukesha County in burning dry brush at the end of February to prevent even bigger fires, fires that could get out of control. "We did a 400-acre prescribed burn out here in Vernon Wildlife area. We drew down this area and burned off a lot of these cattails that have been building up over the last decade," Said Nathan Holoubek, a marine biologist with the Wisconsin DNR. “We drew down this area and burned off a lot of these cattails that have been building up over the last decade,” said Nathan. Southeast Wisconsin’s fire season is starting about a month early this year-- thanks to the warm winter and lack of snow.
