No injuries after former horse betting facility catches fire in Waukegan

Fire officials are investigating after a former horse betting facility, which has been vacant for several years, caught on fire in Waukegan early Wednesday morning. The Waukegan Fire Department responded at 4:44 a.m. Wednesday to 630 South Green Bay Road in Waukegan for a report of a structure fire. The building used to be the Trackside Off-Track Horse Betting facility, which also housed a restaurant and bar. Waukegan Fire Marshal Todd Zupec told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that a driver passing by reported seeing fire coming from the roof of the building. Firefighters arrived in minutes and found heavy fire showing from the front of the building. Crews deployed multiple hose lines and established water supplies from at least two nearby fire hydrants.
