Inundated with fentanyl overdoses, emergency responders went before the Common Council last Wednesday to discuss the issue and outline the need for more resources.
The requests included personnel and Naloxone, better known by the brand name Narcan.
Josh Weber, division chief for the Racine Fire Department, recalled an effort he participated in two years ago that saved the life of a young man in his 20s who suffered an overdose from synthetic opioids. After multiple doses of Narcan from paramedics aggressively working to save his life, he began to come back from the brink of death.
“Anything else we would have done wouldn’t have made a difference,” he said. “That Narcan made the difference.”
He added the importance of having Narcan available to all individuals could not be overstated.
