Multiple area fire departments worked to put out a fire in rural Pepin County Wednesday evening.
According to Durand Fire Chief Jamey King, it happened in the town of Lima, near County Road T and L Poeschel Road. A 911 caller said there was a swamp on fire near the intersection.
King said they could see smoke from miles away. It took crews about five hours to take down the fire, which burned about 80 acres. King added no one was hurt.
Assisting the Durand Fire Department were crews from Menomonie, Plum City, Mondovi, Nelson, Rock Creek, Township, Elk Mount, Lund, and Colfax. They also received help from other agencies, companies and individuals.
What caused the fire is not yet known, and still being investigated.
