VIDEO: The small Vernon County community of Wheatland came together to honor one of its own, Scott Yaun, for his unwavering dedication and selfless service as a firefighter for over four decades.
Yaun used to live in De Soto, and one day he came outside to see his neighbor's house on fire. He started throwing snow in the windows and attempting to put out the fire however he can. After the fire was put out he decided right then and there that he would join the fire department.
Over 40 years later he's still going strong.
However, his impact extends far beyond the walls of the fire station.
“I don’t know how many times I hear of Scott taking someone to the doctor, shoveling their driveway, fixing their snowblower", says Jayne Ballwahn, who nominated Scott for the award.
