VIDEO: The City of Winona is looking at two potential locations for construction of a new central fire station to replace their current headquarters.
Mayor Scott Sherman and Fire Chief Joel Corcoran say the current building is out-of-date and possesses health concerns for firefighters.
"We want to make sure we have a facility that will last us another 50 years. As with any building or any municipal facility, it will wear out," said Sherman.
Since 1955, Central Fire Station has called East 3rd St. home but as it continues to age. Chief Joel Corcoran says the ventilation system is wearing out, raising health and safety concerns.
"The fires these days have lots of carcinogens and other products that when they're off-gassing, they're hazardous to the firefighter's health," said Corcoran.
