VIDEO: The Wausau Fire Department continued its ongoing training efforts Monday by simulating responses to structure fires near the intersection of North 2nd Street and Bridge Street.
The training was done on a city-owned property, beginning with burning an empty shed and later focusing on putting out fires in contained rooms of the house they were working in.
Several dozen people from the Wausau Fire Department, State Fire Marshal, and Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation were all on hand for what was training day one of three this week.
Deputy Fire Chief Justin Pluess says this session was all about refining the basics of fire suppression.
"Obviously, communications, the radio communications, wearing our full SCBAs (self-contained breathing apparatus) is something that we don't get to do often in a real structure that's full of smoke and visibility is low," he added.
