Woman seriously injured in apartment fire in Parkersburg

A fire at a garage apartment Monday afternoon in Parkersburg sent one person to the hospital and remains under investigation. Parkersburg Fire Chief Jason Matthews said when firefighters arrived, the porch was fully engulfed with the flames also inside the apartment at 712 1/2 31st St. Matthews said an occupant managed to exist the apartment, but sustained severe burns as a result. Matthews said the woman was taken to an area hospital and was to be flown by medical helicopter to Cabell Huntington Hospital. Her condition was not immediately available and Matthews said her name was not being released pending notification of her family. Matthews said since there was an injury, the West Virginia Fire Marshal was sending an investigator. Matthews said the Parkersburg Fire Department began its investigation Monday afternoon.
