A fire that spread from a vacant home in Huntington and damaged two other residences is considered suspicious, the city’s fire chief said.
In one of the homes that caught fire, a 90-year-old woman and her daughter were able to get out safely.
Huntington Fire Chief Jan Rader said the fire started about 2 p.m. Tuesday at a vacant home in the 1200 block of Ninth Avenue and spread to another home.
When firefighters arrived, the blaze was starting to spread to a third home. The roof collapsed on the vacant home, and the other two homes received a significant amount of damage.
A 90-year-old woman and her daughter were inside the second home that caught on fire, but they got out safely. Members of Rebuild Huntington, a service church about a block away, saw the smoke and rushed to the scene. As the women were coming out the home, several church members helped guide them away from the fire, gave them blankets and prayed with them.
