The Chapmanville Fire Department recently held training to teach firefighters how to better help victims in emergencies.
On Sunday, the department held its first ever training with their new "Rescue Randy Manikin," which is a life-like manikin that weighs more than 175 pounds. Randy is safely used in situations too hazardous or uncomfortable for human volunteers. The purchase of the manikin was made possible through a foundation grant awarded to the Chapmanville Fire Department to update their training procedures.
Members of the department performed a Denver Drill, which teaches strategic ways to remove a downed victim in close quarters, such as narrow hallways or collapsed areas that limit multiple rescuers.
They also performed training to remove a victim from an elevated surface when the traditional methods of using a ladder truck, carrying down a ladder or harnessing is not available.
