A second evaluation by the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office into the Martinsburg Fire Department has found “no deficiencies” within the department, according to a public information specialist with the office. Assistant state fire marshals informed the disciplinary committee of the state fire marshal’s office of their decision to consider the investigation into the MFD complete during a regularly scheduled meeting Thursday in Charleston. The state’s Fire Commission is to receive the same report today. The second evaluation into the MFD stemmed from an issue with documenting the department’s hose inspections, according to meeting minutes from a Dec. 14 Fire Commission meeting. After a Jan. 9 Martinsburg City Council meeting, City Attorney Kin Sayre said that all inspections were completed and documentation was in order to show that the department was still in compliance with state regulations. Assistant Fire Marshal James Lewis conducted the initial investigation, subpoenaing “all documents concerning annual required testing,” according to documents from the meeting. Those files were reviewed on Nov. 16, 2018.
