After responding to several fires at abandoned houses, the Clarksburg Police Department is taking proactive measures to enforce the law. So far, Chief Hilliard, with the Clarksburg Police Department, says they've issued 27 trespassing citations, four warrants were served and 279 houses have been checked. "I have two officers working in pairs due to the fact that working in those types of conditions. The structures that are unsafe, the officer don't enter those, they just check the outside of the perimeters," said Hilliard. For 3 years the city's demolition program was put to a halt, however, now several houses are being torn down every month. Chief Hiliard says the detail will last until these problems are taken care of. He says they often take away from other calls patrolmen need to respond to.
