Bob Sliger was off the clock and at the gym working out when the first plane hit. Having been at the Fairmont Fire Department since 2000, the events of 9/11 are still etched in his memory. Even though he was off duty at the time, his firefighter mind was with the first responders of the events. “I was at Spatafore’s Fitness working out and one of my buddy’s had said ‘Hey, you need to come check out the TV,’”?said Sliger, now a lieutenant with Fairmont Fire Department. “Went and checked out the TV?and from there, just went ahead and called in to see what’s going on. If I remember right, the fire department went on lock down, nobody was allowed in or out until they found out what the extent of everything was.” Sliger, like many, has not forgotten where he was that day, in part because his heart was with the first responders at the Twin Towers.
