It’s a quiet scene on Thanksgiving afternoon on Third Avenue after the blaze Wednesday brought down Wooten’s Garage and caught the apartment building next to it on fire.
Kevin Heath, the building owner of the insurance business to the left of the rubble came by Thursday morning to check on his property. He says he feels lucky that the blaze narrowly missed his building.
“It was extremely close to the fire, yeah! I’d say probably within six feet… We’re pretty lucky the building didn’t catch fire, it’s just a matter of which way the wind was blowing yesterday. Obviously, it was blowing towards the other building,” Heath says, “I don’t know what operations are going to be like on Monday or next week while they look at our roof and try to figure out whether there’s any damage to the roof and you know, what’s going to continue on. I guess we’ll find out if it rains tonight.”
